In late September, in Korsakov urban district of the Sakhalin Region (Sakhalin island), on the shore of Aniva Bay, a public garden named “Melody of love, history and tradition” was ceremoniously opened, with 8-meter tall Father Sakhalin statue in the center. This statue became a generalized character of a native Sakhaliner. The figure is draped in a traditional robe of the low-numbered peoples of the North. Its arms are “embracing” the sun, because it is on Sakhalin island and on the Kurils that sunrise is welcomed first. In one hand it holds a tambourine, the traditional instrument of native low-numbered peoples, and a fish-like stick in the other. A gull emphasizes connection with nature. At the same time, one of the key ideas is reflection of the industrial achievements on Sakhalin island. That’s why the statue is made of metal and stationed against the background of Prigorodnoye production complex – Russia’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in the framework of Sakhalin-2 project.
Our subsidiary, Technological Oil and Gas Systems LLC, was directly involved in the implementation of this project.
The opening of the art object was attended by officials from the Administrations, managers of the Customer (GPI Sakhalin LLC) and contractors, including representatives from:
• Sakhalin Energy LLC – Andrei Oleinikov, first deputy CEO;
• Korsakov Administration – Natalia Kuprina, mayor of Korsakov town;
• Sakhalin Region Administration – Aleksei Belik, chairman of the Sakhalin Region Government;
• Aleksei Limanzo – authorized representative of small-numbered native peoples of the North in the Sakhalin Region Duma.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all those involved in the implementation of this project: designers, builders, and manufacturers of the art object, who worked under the effective supervision of the project management team. The coordinated work of all participants ensured the successful accomplishment of this project, which was performed in difficult geological conditions and within a tight schedule.
The newly built garden has already become a center of attraction and a landmark for residents and visitors to Sakhalin island.
